The beautiful mountain massive of the European Alps: avalanche country. When White Death strikes, the best hope for its victims are rescue dogs. Their finely tuned noses can find people even when they're buried in snow four meters deep. No technology comes even close.
In Avalanche Angels, VIDICOM presents exclusive material filmed up close and on site during dramatic rescue missions: When disaster strikes, it's a life and death struggle for everyone involved. In an avalanche zone, rescuers and their dogs put themselves at great risk. Every second counts and miracles are few.
One of them is the live find of Andy, a 25-year-old German - probably the most spectacular mountain rescue mission ever captured on film. For more than 20 hours, Andy was buried alive. When, after 19 hours, his friend was found dead, most searchers did not believe in saving his life anymore - when, suddenly, the Belgian Shepherd Falk traced another "hot spot" with human scent permeating the snow...
In addition to the thrilling material filmed during the rescue missions, Avalanche Angels offers insights into the dogs' training. In order to sharpen their special abilities and to help them cope with difficulties like riding chairlifts or flying in helicopters, the Search-and-Rescue dogs are put through a sort of doggy olympics - a tough challenge designed to strengthen the trust between the dogs and their handlers.
